IIIT Basara students end protest after Telangana minister’s assurance – Times of India

Hyderabad: Students of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technologies (RGUKT) in Telangana’s Nirmal district withdrew their week-long protest after Education Minister P. Sabita Indra Reddy assured that their problems would be resolved in a phased manner.

The students announced that they would start attending classes from Tuesday as the minister assured that all their demands would be met in a phased manner. They were demanding appointment of a regular Vice-Chancellor and improvement in the quality of food and other infrastructure.

Sabita Indra Reddy reached Basara from Hyderabad on Monday after students requested for assurance from the Chief Minister’s Office or the minister.

He was accompanied by Nirmal District Collector Musharraf Ali Farooqui, IIIT Basara in-charge Vice Chancellor Rahul Bojja, Telangana State Council of Higher Education Vice President Venkata Ramana, IIIT Basara Director Satish Kumar, Education Commissioner Vakati Karuna, Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar and local MLA Vithal Reddy. ,

The minister first interacted with the officials, who informed him about the demands of the students and the progress made in the conversations held with them by the Collector and the Director.

Sabita Indra Reddy later held talks with the 20-member Student Governing Council. The conversation continued till late in the night.

After the talks, the students said that they are satisfied with the assurance given by the minister to solve their problems in the order of priority.

The students decided to call for a protest and attend classes.

The District Collector said that Rs 5.6 crore would be released to the institution immediately.

Earlier, the students continued their dharna for the seventh day on Monday to press for their demands.

Facing rain, they continued to picket at the main entrance of the building.
