According to the spokesperson IIM Jammu, a delegation led by Prof. BS Sahai, Director, Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Jammu called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Shri RK Mathur and Shri Tashi Gelson, Chairman/Head of the Union Territory of Ladakh. Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh (Hill Council).
“Dr Pankaj K Agarwal, Associate Professor and Chairperson, Executive Education and Dr Pratik Jain, Associate Professor, IIM Jammu were part of the delegation.” During the meeting, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh appreciated the idea and said, “I appreciate the interest of IIM Jammu in having an off-campus in Ladakh and would in turn suggest a holistic program tailored to the needs of Ladakh and its youth.” ”
“This will enable new entrepreneurs to convert economic opportunities into real income, underlined Lt. Ladakh.
Meenhil Mr. Tashi Gyalsan, President/CEC, LAHDC Leh also welcomed the idea of IIM Jammu off-campus for the youth of Ladakh.
“I express my concern over local students migrating to different cities outside Ladakh and studying in premier professional institutions amidst various challenges,” he said.
CEC, LAHDC Leh, said, “I propose instead such institutions in the Union Territory of Ladakh that can overcome such challenges and help youth develop professionalism and entrepreneurship skills.”
He hoped, “Professional skill training institutes like IIMs with appropriate programs for the local environment and economic activities will gradually help in creating more opportunities for the youth.”
Earlier, Professor BS Sahai, Director, IIM Jammu, conveyed the idea to the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Mr. Mathur and said, “We are keen to open an off-campus at IIM Jammu in Ladakh.”
“IIM Jammu being an institute of national importance, can contribute significantly in providing counselling, training and assistance to Ladakhi youth for setting up MSME units in priority sector for income generation.”
The delegation appreciated the Lt Governor of Ladakh from his ongoing courses especially with the newly introduced dual degree (B.Tech and MBA) with IIT Jammu and MBA (Hospital Administration and Health Management) with AIIMS Jammu and IIT Jammu. Also called “Happiness”. Program- Anandam” at Jammu campus.
He covered incubation and entrepreneurship, financial literacy, skill development, executive education, advisory services, etc.
