IIT Delhi offers scholarships, seed grants to students under Endowment Fund

NS Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) DelhiEndowment Fund Board has launched “Endowment Merit Scholarship” and “Endowment Nurture Fund”. While the Endowment Board is currently paying Rs 3.20 crore annually from the earnings of the Endowment Corpus, it expects the amount and awardees to increase further in the coming years, it says.

The Merit Scholar Program will award 120 scholarships each year to BTech and dual degree students – 15 women and 15 men will be selected for the program. While the objective of the “Endowment Nurture Fund” is to provide students with the opportunity to be awarded seed funding for their proposed ventures, encouraging them to develop and nurture their entrepreneurial ideas and aspirations rather than looking for a job .

Congratulating the members of the Endowment Board and its founders on the occasion of its second anniversary, Professor V Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi and Chairman, Endowment Fund Board, said, “IIT Delhi took a historic step with the establishment of Endowment Fund. It is encouraging to have the collective support of our alumni to realize the vision of the Institute. Endowment initiatives have helped the institute to connect with the alumni at a deeper level and engage them in various activities. Following the launch of the Endowment Fund initiative of IIT Delhi by the Hon’ble President of India, many institutions in the country have launched a similar initiative and it is heartening to see the culture of giving back in India rapidly taking its roots.

The Endowment Fund comprises over 54,000 alumni as well as ad administrative members of IIT Delhi. Professor Naveen Garg, Dean, Alumni Affairs and International Programs, IIT Delhi says, “The seed that was sown two years ago with the establishment of the Endowment Fund, has now started bearing fruit. We are hopeful that in the years to come, the IIT Delhi Endowment Fund will allow IIT Delhi to launch many more ambitious and path-breaking ventures that will establish the Institute’s leadership in innovation and research.

The fund was set up by President Ram Nath Kovind on October 31, 2019 at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
