IIT Guwahati launches School of Health Science and Technology

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati Will soon offer courses in health sciences under its newly established ‘Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology’. It is being set up in collaboration with IIT and Mehta Family Foundation (MFF), Houston, Texas, USA.

The Medical School will promote cutting-edge research and innovation, set new standards of pedagogy and practical training methods in health science-related areas, create a niche for startups and MSMEs that will provide evidence-based affordable health technology and promote cutting-edge biomedical and public health education, claims the IITs.

Addressing the programme, Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser, Government of India, said, “At this juncture, I can clearly see that the School of Health Science and Technology will host many modern academic courses, centers of excellence, incubators, and multidisciplinary research and Research laboratories for progress in education, which is currently needed in the country.

Besides this Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, “The school will also bring budding academic leaders close to world-class academics, scientists, practitioners, technologists and entrepreneurs who can catalyze high-impact research, reduce costly biomedical imports, and create an academic Create a curriculum that substantiates the vision of a sustainable society.”

Meanwhile, the Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology has started a new Master’s and PhD program in Health Science and Technology from this academic year. The first batch of 20 M.Tech students in the stream of Biomedical Science and Engineering will be admitted to IIT Guwahati through GATE 2022.

Highlighting the initiatives being taken by the new centre, Prof TG Sitaram, Director, IIT Guwahati said that as part of the initiative, the joint team will incorporate state-of-the-art education and research in areas related to medical science, diagnostics. prostheses, implantation, bioinformatics, molecular biology, regenerative medicine, stem cells, public health and health data analysis, among many others.

“The impact of such translation education and research is far-reaching as they will not only meet the demands of having an adequately qualified postgraduate in the service of the nation but will also catalyze research output matching global standards,” he said.

“This new multidisciplinary program on Health Science and Technology at IIT Guwahati has been designed on the basis of National Policy on Education (NEP) 2020,” the institute said in its press release.
