Indian Institute technology (IIT) Patna today announced a partnership with Applied Materials India Pvt Ltd to set up a Center of Excellence on Wear and Corrosion Resistant Coatings.

The partnership will engage in research and development of specialty coatings for corrosion protection in the semiconductor industry with support from the Department of Science and Technology’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology Program.

The three-year agreement will provide a platform for IIT Patna faculty and students to work on critical materials for the semiconductor industry and provide solutions to high-value industrial problems.

In addition to working on industry-relevant challenges, the program will provide students with an opportunity to work closely with Applied Materials scientists in India and the United States. An industry-academia collaboration of this nature will help bring together the best minds from IIT Patna and Applied Materials and better prepare students for their careers with exposure to materials engineering solutions for disruptive technology changes.

“The synergy between industry and academia is critical to drive innovation and create impact in the real world,” said Srinivas Satya, Country President, Applied Materials India. “Our collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology, Patna will pave the way for cutting edge research and development leading the way to solve the challenges of today and tomorrow.”

Professor TN Singh, Director, IIT Patna, expressed his confidence in the association with the industry, “This is the way for IITs to be part of the future road map in niche technology segments like semiconductors. DST’s AMT program will lead to advancements in the application of coatings in wear and corrosion resistance.

Applied’s CTO Suraj Rangarajan said, “Our collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Patna is focused on the research and development of specialized coatings for corrosion protection in hot and harsh environments, with solutions that are expandable to other technology domains beyond semiconductors ” Material India. “We believe this initiative will inspire and empower students to push the boundaries of the possible and drive positive change in the semiconductor domain for years to come.”

Professor Anoop Kumar Keshari, Founder of Center of Excellence in Wear and Corrosion Resistance Coating Technology and Associate Dean of R&D, IIT Patna, commented, “This association with Applied Materials, world leaders in the semiconductor industry; development of advanced materials and coatings Leveraging the DST grant will help IIT Patna to scale new heights in IIT Patna.
