IITs have been the pride of the country: President Draupadi Murmu

Indian Institute technology India’s President Draupadi Murmu said, the nation has been proud. She was speaking at the closing ceremony of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of IIT Delhi in New Delhi today.

“India has a great talent pool which is yet to be fully tapped. We need to prepare our institutions for the future with new teaching and learning metrics, pedagogy and content,” she said.

President said IIT helped India Prove India’s capability in the field of education and technology to the world. In many ways, the story of IIT is the story of independent India.

IIT’s faculty and alumni have shown the world what India’s brain power can do. Students studying at IITs are now at the forefront of the world wide digital revolution. The influence of IITs has gone beyond science and technology. “IITians are leaders in every walk of life – academia, industry, entrepreneurship, civil society, activism, journalism, literature and politics,” she said.

As one of the original IITs, IIT Delhi is a mentor to some of the more recent members of the club – IIT Ropar and IIT Jammu. He said that IIT Delhi has contributed significantly in building the image of IITs as Centers of Excellence across the globe.

IIT Delhi has always seen itself as part of the larger community and has been extra sensitive towards its responsibility towards the society. She shared that the latest example of IIT’s social concern was witnessed during the initial phase of the pandemic. To the challenge of controlling the virus, IIT Delhi came up with some important research and development projects. It also designed and developed rapid antigen test kits, PPEs, antimicrobial fabrics, high-efficiency face masks and low-cost ventilators. “IIT Delhi’s contribution to India’s fight against coronavirus has been a model for how engineering and technology institutions can also play a role in a public health crisis,” he said.

The President of India said that by 2047, when we celebrate 100 years of independence, the world around it will have changed a lot due to the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Just like 25 years ago we never imagined the contemporary world, today we cannot imagine how Artificial Intelligence and Automation is going to change lives. “With our high population numbers, we need foresight and strategies to deal with future forces where disruption will be the new normal. The nature of employment will change completely,” she said.

He said, “If we take steps to protect ourselves from the uncertainties of the future, we can reap rich demographic dividend. We need to make our institutions future-friendly. This requires a new teaching-learning matrix. will need,
Pedagogy, and content that is futuristic. I am confident that with our renowned IITs, we will be able to nurture the younger generation with the required knowledge base and the right skills to face the challenge. India will benefit immensely from the next wave of technological revolution.”

Stating that climate change is a serious challenge, he said that as a developing country with a high population base, India’s energy requirement for economic development is enormous. The President said that we need to move from fossil fuels to renewable energy and, in the years to come, as the world eagerly looks for technological solutions to environmental challenges, he believes that India’s young engineers and scientists will be able to create human resources. Will help the caste to achieve a success.
