Speaking to TOI, state IMA secretary Dr Pradeep Singh said: “Our junior doctors and interns have been the backbone of healthcare services during the pandemic as they are the frontline warriors in any medical college and hospital. It is therefore the duty of the state to ensure that they are paid well and on time. Therefore, we demand immediate payment of salary to junior doctors due for three months and incentive amount due for more than one and a half years.
Junior Doctors Association (JDA) RIMS has warned the hospital management of boycott for non-payment of salaries in the next 10 days.
Speaking to TOI, JDA President Dr Vikas Kumar welcomed IMA’s support and said, “We are grateful to IMA for highlighting our plight with the Health Minister. But we are extremely disappointed with the way the state health department has taken up this matter. When we contacted the RIMS management on Wednesday, we were told that the state health department is yet to allocate funds to RIMS for payment of salaries and incentives to resident doctors and interns.”
“When we are not paid salaries, how does the government expect us to work with full dedication? The salaries of interns and residents are now over two months and incentives for over 18 months. I would like to add that the senior faculty and officers of the department have already benefited from the encouragement, while the first line of defense against COVID-19 is still waiting for it,” said Dr Kumar.
When contacted, Alok Trivedi, Additional Secretary, State Health Department, said, “We have been informed about the matter and we are looking forward to the process of allotment to RIMS.”
Meanwhile, TOI has learned from sources in the state health department that there will be a delay in payment of incentives as the department is still collecting data of all doctors and medical officers who have joined after April 2021.
When asked how long it would take, the source said that the process would take at least a fortnight.
