IMD issues red alert for several districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry on November 11

On November 11, a red alert has been issued by the Indian Meteorological Department for several districts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kallakurichi, Salem, Vellore, Tirupattur, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai and Puducherry.

The IMD warned on Wednesday that there is a possibility of thunderstorms with heavy to very heavy rains at some places.

“It is now raining extensively in Tamil Nadu. It intensified after 8 pm, especially in the northern regions,” an official of the Meteorological Department told PTI here. Announcing the possible formation of a depression, the IMD bulletin said that the well marked low pressure area over central parts of south Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards and concentrated into a depression on Wednesday evening. Gaya.

It is located approximately 430 km east-southeast of Chennai and 420 km east-southeast of Puducherry. “It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and reach north Tamil Nadu coast by the morning of November 11, 2021. Thereafter, it will move west-northwestwards and move towards north Tamil Nadu and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh. It is likely to cross the coasts of between Karaikal and Sriharikota, north of Puducherry by the evening of 11 November 2021.”

The IMD has warned of light to moderate, heavy, very heavy and very heavy rain at different places and at isolated places. Such areas include North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, North Interior TN, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and South Interior Karnataka.

The low pressure area that formed over southeast Bay of Bengal on November 9 became well marked on Wednesday morning. Rain is expected from the weather system in Tamil Nadu for at least the next two days.

Rainfall is very likely to be isolated, heavy, very heavy and very heavy at isolated places and light to moderate at most places.

On Tuesday, there was a drop in rain in and around the northern areas. However, the Cauvery delta regions of Tamil Nadu and Karaikkal (Puducherry) received very heavy rains. Nagapattinam tops the chart with 31 CMs, followed by Karaikkal (29 CMs) and Vedaranyam (25 CMs).

Other delta regions, including Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Mannargudi, Mayiladuthurai and Pattukottai, also received heavy rainfall.
