IMD Weather Update: Rain likely in these 5 states till November 1

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in several south Indian states till November 1. According to the IMD’s latest weather update, thunderstorms and lightning are likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka till November 1.

In a series of tweets, the IMD said, “Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Coastal and South Interior Karnataka on 31st October and Rayalaseema during 29th October to 30th October.

The weather monitoring agency said widespread rain may occur in many parts of Kerala on Friday, causing water-logging in low-lying areas and causing damage to roads.

It said that five districts of Kerala- Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthita, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki districts would receive heavy rains. The IMD has also issued a ‘yellow’ alert for Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Wayanad districts on Friday.

According to the IMD’s weather forecast, the forecast of heavy rainfall is due to a low pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast and associated cyclonic circulation.

“Light to moderate to widespread rain with thundershowers very likely over Kerala & Mahe, Coastal & South Interior Karnataka & Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal 26-30, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Rayalaseema on 29 & 30 October.”

However, some parts of North West, Central and West India and East India will see dry weather during the next 6-7 days.
