Imran Khan arrested: Pak Punjab government sets up probe team to nab culprits of violence

by Hamza Amir: The government of Pakistan’s Punjab province has decided to form a joint investigation team to find the culprits of the violence that broke out across Pakistan this week following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Regarding the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case,

The team will probe the incidents of violence since May 9, when Imran Khan was arrested, and submit a report to the provincial government.

According to Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, all the culprits will be arrested and cases of terrorism will be registered against them.

Imran Khan was arrested by Pakistani Rangers From outside the Islamabad High Court in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case. An arrest warrant was issued against him by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Rawalpindi on May 1.

Following his arrest, Imran Khan’s supporters stormed the Pakistan Army headquarters in Rawalpindi and the Corps Commander’s residence in Lahore. Violence broke out in many cities of PakistanProtesters resorted to large-scale arson, stone-pelting, looting and clashed with police officers.

The Islamabad High Court gave its permission on Friday 70-year-old cricketer-politician granted protective bail for two weeks in the corruption case and restrained the authorities from arresting him in any case registered anywhere in the country till May 15.

The High Court ordered that Imran Khan should not be arrested till May 17 in any case registered in Islamabad after May 9. It also ordered the authorities to provide ‘foolproof security’ to the former prime minister.
