In a clear message to the government, Varun Gandhi shares clip of Vajpayee’s speech in support of farmers

Varun Gandhi was recently dropped from the BJP’s national executive, which was seen as a sign of unhappiness of the party leadership towards him.

BJP MP Varun Gandhi on Thursday posted a short clip of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s 1980 speech on Twitter in which he warned the then Indira Gandhi government against oppressing farmers and extended his support to them.

Mr Gandhi tweeted, “Wise words from a leader with a big heart…”

The BJP MP has been vocal in sympathizing with farmers agitating against the three agricultural laws enacted by the Modi government and sharing Mr. Vajpayee’s speech is seen as his message to the central government.

In the video clip, Mr Vajpayee can be heard telling a gathering that farmers cannot be intimidated.

“If the government suppresses (farmers), abuses laws and suppresses peaceful agitation, we will not hesitate to join the farmers’ struggle and stand with them,” he is heard saying.

Mr Gandhi has also demanded strict action against those responsible In connection with the death of four farmers in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri after they were hit by vehicles allegedly belonging to BJP leaders.

He was recently removed from the National Executive of BJP Which was seen as a sign of unhappiness of the party leadership with the Pilibhit MP.
