In Assam, PM Modi greets Bihu artists who set Guinness record, launches Northeast’s first AIIMS

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday visited Assam where he greeted over 11,000 Bihu performers who created two Guinness World Records besides launching the Northeast region’s first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) near Guwahati on Thursday. Were.

Modi was in the state for a day-long visit to mark Rongali Bihu, which marks the beginning of Bohag or the first month of the Assamese calendar.

Hundreds of people covered the 5 km distance along the barricades through which Modi’s motorcade made its way from Bashistha to Surasajai Stadium in Guwahati, where the record-setting performance was held.

As soon as Modi reached the stage to address the crowd of thousands at the stadium, there was loud applause. As the Bihu artists greeted him with welcome, he said it was unlike anything he had “ever experienced before”.

On Thursday, Assam created two Guinness World Records at the venue – the world’s largest display of traditional Bihu dance, and the largest performance by folk musicians. The Guinness World Record officials on Friday handed over the certificates for the achievement to the Assam government.

Modi greeted the audience in Assamese and also quoted a verse from Jyoti Sangeet-‘Biswa Bijoy Nozwan’ – Written by freedom fighter, playwright, poet and filmmaker Roopkanwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwal to awaken the youth for the freedom struggle. The Prime Minister recited the first few lines of the song, apologizing for any mispronouncements.

Emphasizing on the development of connectivity and infrastructure in Assam and the Northeast, the Prime Minister said that Assam is turning into an “A-1 state”. He said that hundreds of people have now seen peace in the North East region with people leaving the path of violence and returning to the mainstream.

Quoting the BJP’s slogan “Everyone’s support, everyone’s development, everyone’s effort (Progress for all, with everyone’s efforts)”, the prime minister sought to assure the crowd of his government’s continued support to the state.

AIIMS launched, 3 medical colleges inaugurated

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister attended the formal launch of AIIMS Guwahati, the first AIIMS in the region. With a ceremony at Changsari, about 20 km from the city. He also virtually inaugurated three medical colleges at Nalbari, Nagaon and Kokrajhar.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute at IIT-Guwahati – virtually – from the same event, and also formally distributed Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY, the government health insurance scheme) cards in Assam.
