In Bengal, private schools allow children to attend classes only after parental consent

Private schools are sending consent letters to parents through email.

Many private schools in the state are asking the students to submit proper undertaking from the parents.

After the decision of the Calcutta High Court, private schools in Kolkata are not allowing students to attend classes without the consent of their parents. After the West Bengal government had allowed the reopening of schools from November 16, the Calcutta High Court said that if there is any problem, parents can talk to the authorities concerned who will take necessary action.

And now private schools in Bengal are strictly following the High Court’s decision and not allowing students to attend classes without parental consent. The court did not impose any other legal impediment on the reopening of schools in West Bengal.

Many private schools in the state are asking the students to submit proper affidavit from the parents along with the health report of the ward. Private schools are sending consent letters to parents through email.

Krishna Damani, director of South Point School, said, “We will take daily health reports from parents and then parents will send their children to school.”

The La Martiniere school administration said that students were being asked to come with the consent of the parents.

A division bench of Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava on the plaintiff’s case said on Thursday, “If the parents had any problem, they would have come to the court and resolved the problem. When will the school be open? You have to decide. This is not an individual matter.”

The bench further said, “The parents concerned will have to come to the court and explain their problem. If the students or parents or teachers have any problem then they can file a complaint with the concerned authorities.”
