Mancherial:

A video clip from CCTV footage purportedly showing an MLA of the ruling BRS in Telangana manhandling a worker at a toll plaza went viral on social media, prompting the MLA to deny the allegations.

Clips aired by local TV news channels purportedly show Bellampalli MLA Durgam Chinnaiah slapping an activist near a plaza on a national highway in Mancherial district on Tuesday.

The incident took place when the MLA was going in his car.

In the footage, some people, including a gunman, are seen near the toll plaza. It further shows a man walking up to a man and slapping him after which the man is seen walking away.

The MLA, on his part, denied media reports on the incident.

According to the MLA, the toll fee was collected even before the work on the highway was completed.

“I only inquired about the norms. There was no response from the officials. When I asked about their manager, this person (toll plaza employee) spoke rudely to me. I never manhandled or assaulted anyone Didn’t,” Mr. Chinnaih said.

A senior police officer told PTI-language that no complaint has been lodged so far, but investigation has started.

“We have not received any complaint so far. We are verifying and will proceed accordingly,” the official said.
