A man was pleasantly surprised when he tried to withdraw ₹500 from an ATM, but found five currency notes of ₹500 denomination at a cash dispenser in Nagpur district of Maharashtra.

He repeated the process and again tried to withdraw ₹500 and got ₹2,500. The incident took place on Wednesday at the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of a private bank in Khaparkheda town, about 30 km from Nagpur city.

The news spread like wildfire and soon a huge crowd gathered outside the ATM center to withdraw cash.

Later, a bank customer informed the local police, who reached the spot and closed the ATM center and informed the bank, an official of the Khaparkheda police station said.

He said that due to a technical snag, the ATM was drawing extra cash.

The official said that the ₹500 denomination notes were mistakenly placed in the ATM tray for the purpose of dispensing ₹100 denomination notes.

He said that no case has been registered in this regard so far.
