JODHPUR: A minor boy has been arrested here for allegedly impregnating his 15-year-old cousin who gave birth to a child in the district. The police gave this information on Saturday.
He told that a girl resident of a village here gave birth to a baby boy on Friday in a government hospital.
According to child welfare committee (CWC) President Dhanpat Gurjar, the girl was “raped” by her cousin, who is about the same age as the girl who lived at the girl’s house during her vacation.
However, the girl’s parents refused to accept the child and expressed their desire to hand over the newborn to the children’s home, they said.
Gurjar said the girl’s mother was aware of the incident and also about her daughter’s pregnancy, but she chose to remain silent considering their family ties.
He said that since the family is not interested in keeping the child with them, the process of handing over the child to the Children’s Home would be initiated on Monday.
He said that both the mother and the child are healthy.
The CWC got information about the incident through the hospital when the girl was admitted there on Thursday. After that, Gurjar and a team consulted the girl and her parents to find out more about the incident.
“Neither the girl nor her mother was ready to disclose the incident to the police and doctors. When we reached the hospital on Friday and spoke to the girl and the mother about the complications of the case, they disclosed the information”, Gurjar said.
He said the mother came to know about the incident during her daughter’s pregnancy, but kept it a secret.
According to the police, the families of the victim and the accused family are from nearby rural areas. Jodhpur and survive on labor and masonry work.
Both the victim and the accused are students of class 10th and frequented the victim’s house.
