A total of 32 CG officers and six in-living officers’ residences with allied facilities have been completed and handed over as part of the projects. These accommodations are designed to be affordable for families and single service workers.
The ICG in Mangalore has accorded top priority to ensure timely completion of both the infrastructure projects, despite the manpower-availability challenges. covid-19 lockdown The shortfall in accommodation of in-living officers over the past two years is likely to substantially compensate for the housing requirement of in-living officers.
The workmanship and project were supervised by the Military Engineering Services and the Central Public Works Department. ICG is developing infrastructure at Bajpe to strengthen its operational reach and enhance coastal security along the Karnataka coast.
Major projects underway in Bajpe include administrative, technical and living accommodation for Coast Guard Air Enclave and married accommodation for DSC personnel. It will, inter alia, contribute to the introduction of CG Charter for Search and Rescue (SAR), Pollution Response etc.
The new Type V CGs are state-of-the-art and energy efficient with comprehensive safety management measures in respect of married accommodation, and accommodation of officers living. The buildings use resource-efficient green technology and promote eco-friendly practices.
Karnataka Coast Guard Commander DIG SB Venkatesh said Mangalore is being developed as a major station where a Coast Guard Academy of global standards is also being planned.
