information technology giant Infosys It issued a press release on Thursday saying that it has been able to successfully streamline most of the glitches that users encountered on the new. income tax portal. The portal which went live on June 7, 2021, received several complaints from users regarding glitches and lagging since it went live. Infosys said in a BSE filing that so far up to three crore taxpayers have been able to successfully complete their essential transactions and about 1.5 crore income tax return were filed through the new portal.
The incidents and reports of those frequent glitches had forced Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to call Infosys executives for meetings on two separate occasions. One meeting was held in June itself, while the other was held in August. Sitharaman gave the company time till September 15 to fix the portal. However, despite the deadline, Infosys was yet to resolve several issues already on the portal. As a result of these delays, the government was once again forced to extend the deadline for filing income tax returns and gave the deadline of December 31, 2021, to address some more immediate concerns.
Speaking on the matter, the company said, “Even as the portal makes steady progress with crores of taxpayers successfully transacting, the company acknowledges the difficulties that some users continue to experience and the income tax Working expeditiously in collaboration with the department, to further streamline the end-user experience.”
“During the month of September, on an average over 15 lakh specific taxpayers have entered the portal, and over 1.5 crore returns have been filed so far. Of the taxpayers who have filed their returns, over 85 per cent have also completed their e-verification, mainly through Aadhaar OTP authentication. The portal is facilitating the filing of over 2.5 lakh returns on a daily basis,” Infosys said.
After the revamp of the portal, users can now avail a variety of forms and services on it.
Services and forms now available on IT Portal
1) E-Verification, which is mostly done through Aadhaar OTP authentication.
2) ITR 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 are now available for the users to file.
3) An array of statutory forms have also been made available on the portal. Statutory forms like 15G, 15H, EQ1, 10A, 10E, 10IE, DTVSV, 15CA, 15CB, 35 and TDS returns are available for filing.
4) Taxpayer services such as e-Proceedings, response to notices and demands, e-PAN services, DSC registration, and functionality for legal heirs, are now also available to the users.
Infosys announced that so far more than 11.5 lakh statutory forms and over 8 lakh TDS returns have been filed and more than 16.6 lakh e-PANs have been allotted. The company said that so far around 4.3 lakh DSC registrations and over 3.44 lakh e-action responses to notices have been completed on the portal.

“While it is making steady progress, Infosys recognizes the ongoing challenges faced by some users and has directly engaged with over 1200 taxpayers to better understand their concerns. The company is focused on rapidly addressing these challenges while working closely with the chartered accountant community to ensure that a comprehensive set of user scenarios are supported and fully tested prior to deployment.” Infosys said.
The company said that it is committed to making rapid progress in this matter. It also said that it has dedicated over 750 resources just for this project and that it aims to complete a significant portion of the work with the help of Income Tax Department officials.
