IND vs AUS, 1st T20I: Hardik Pandya smashes 3 sixes in the last over – watch

India all-rounder Hardik Pandya All guns blazing in the last over of the first innings against Australia in the first T20I of the three-match series at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium here on Tuesday. Hardik hit three consecutive sixes against Cameron Green. He scored 71 runs in just 30 balls with the help of five sixes and seven fours. It was Hardik’s innings that helped India score more than 200 runs.

Opting to bat first, India got off to a quiet start as Australian fast bowlers, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins were making some movement off the pitch. India’s openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul had to derail to counter it.

With runs not coming easily, Rohit tried to counterattack with some risky shots and hit Cummins for a lucky six and a boundary. He got lucky once, but while going for another flick shot, the India captain was dismissed as Nathan Ellis took a decent run coming from deep midwicket.

India had high hopes from Virat Kohli but he could not do much as Australia’s plan was working well for him. Adam Zampa came early to make a series of dot balls and after scoring 3 for 7, Kohli tried to come under Nathan Ellis but delivered a simple catch at mid-on, leaving India after 4.5 overs. Came to 35-2.

From there, Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav put on a solid 68-run partnership to bring India back into the game.

Taking his sweet time, Rahul left nothing in his hitting zone and especially his pick-up shot was over the top and he got two sixes. Suryakumar, on the other hand, was also complementing Rahul well with regular boundaries as the duo didn’t let the run-rate slow them down to take India to 86/2 after 10 overs.

Rahul, who was criticized for his slow strike rate, scored his century in just 32 balls and was on course to take India to a big total. But, on a pick-up shot, he found a fielder on the fine leg fence.

After Rahul’s wicket, Suryakumar became more aggressive and hit six sixes after another off Adam Zampa’s delivery. But in the next over, he tried to push Cameron Green towards third man and eventually moved towards the ‘keeper’. Left-handed Axar Patel was sent ahead of Dinesh Karthik but he managed to hit just one four off five balls before being dismissed by Nathan Ellis on a slower delivery.

At 146-5 in 15.5 overs, Hardik Pandya and Karthik had to do well for India. While Karthik was disappointed by scoring just six runs, Hardik shone like a star.

The all-rounder completed his fifty in just 26 balls to do some backend lifting. Hardik hit three sixes off Cameron Green in the last three balls of the innings to help India finish with 208/6 in 20 overs. For Australia, medium pacer Nathan Ellis was the 3/30 bowler’s choice.

Brief Scores: India 208/6 in 20 overs (Hardik Pandya 71 not out, KL Rahul 55; Nathan Ellis 3/30, Josh Hazlewood 2/39) vs Australia.
