India started well on the third day as Gill and Rohit put on 36 runs in the remaining 10 overs before stumps. On the fourth day, Rohit was trapped by Kuhnmann for 35 runs off 58 balls. Later, Gill and Kohli were in the middle for India but the youngster was dismissed by veteran Nathan Lyon to break Australia’s deadly stand. Gill hit 12 fours and a maximum in his innings of 128 runs.
Earlier, Usman Khawaja led the Aussies with a mammoth 180 off 422 balls, with Cameron Green also scoring a century, his first in red-ball cricket for Australia. Steve Smith’s men posted a total of 480 runs in their first innings and tested the limits of the Indian bowling attack.
