India’s stand-in captain KL Rahul was one of the top performers with the bat till another Test half-century here on Monday. However, he could not convert his half-century into a big innings as he was removed by Marco Jansson shortly after. Ravichandran Ashwin was the next best batsman for India who scored 46 runs in 50 balls.

Meanwhile, it was another poor performance from Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane as they scored three and zero respectively.

With skipper Virat Kohli ruled out of the match due to a back spasm, Rahul (50 off 133 balls) was patient on a bouncy and seaming Wanderers track before a pull shot ended in the post-lunch session.

He and Hanuma Vihari (20) had a good short partnership of 42 runs before an inspiring close-in catch from Rassi van der Dussen at short leg sent the latter back.

Rishabh Pant (13) and attacker Ravichandran Ashwin (24 batting 21 balls) added 40 runs in 48 balls before Marco Janssen broke the partnership.

In the next over, Olivier took his third wicket as Shardul Thakur slapped Pietersen straight across the street from the body. Ashwin continues to counter-attack, clipping Rabada through mid-wicket with the full face of the bat, and leans forward to drive Olivier through mid-on.

Mohammed Shami cut Rabada vigorously but went straight back to the bowler, who took a brilliant catch and got out. Ashwin saved a 44-run chance when Bavuma nearly pulled a screamer over deep cover. But on the very next ball, Ashwin takes a short delivery from Jensen to upper-cut and it completely misses Pietersen on point.

Jasprit Bumrah took India past 200 with the help of two fours and a six to dismiss Rabada for 14. Rabada then ended the Indian innings by strangling Mohammad Siraj.
