IND vs SL Day-Night Test: Swarm of bees halts Day 2 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium

Bees made an unwanted visit to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday to stop play on the second day of the pink ball Test match between India and Sri Lanka. On Sunday, Indian team players took to the field along with Sri Lanka’s Lasith Embuldeniya and Niroshan Dickwella to start the day’s play, but suddenly a swarm of bees stopped the start.

Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was about to bowl the first over of the day but was asked to wait for a few minutes. However, it didn’t take long for the bees to make way for the match. On his eighth ball of the day, Bumrah took the wicket of Embuldeniya to inflict early injury on Sri Lanka.

Ahead of the day’s play, wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant spoke about the Chinnaswamy pitch which caused contrast trouble for both the teams. The Indian batsmen found it difficult to deal with spin, while the Sri Lankan batsmen lost 5 wickets at the hands of the fast bowlers in the final session.

‘The wicket was about to spin but it didn’t turn too much in the light, it could happen once again this afternoon. It was a bit slow, but it got better and better as the day progressed. The pink ball was swinging a lot in the light, so our fast bowlers were coming into play. I don’t think personally, the team’s plan was to get at least 200, then 250, it was all about building partnerships. Today’s plan is to continue and stick to the basics,’ Pant told the broadcasters.

Fast bowlers Bumrah (3/15), Mohammed Shami (2/18) along with batsman Shreyas Iyer (92) put India in a commanding position against Sri Lanka on a fast-paced opening day of the second and final Test.

Sri Lanka had scored 86-6 in their first innings at stumps, trailing by 166 runs against India. At the end of the day’s play in Bengaluru, Niroshan Dickwella (13 off 29) and Lasith Embuldeniya (0) were unbeaten at the crease.

After bowling India out for 252 in their first innings, Sri Lanka did not show much application during their batting as Bumrah and Shami created a lot of movement under the lights and shattered the visitors’ top order.
