India-China trade deficit stood at $30 billion during April-September

New Delhi The trade deficit between India and China stood at $30.07 billion during April-September 2021, Parliament was informed on Wednesday.

According to data given by Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Anupriya Patel in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, India’s exports to China stood at $12.26 billion during the April-September 2021 period, while imports stood at $42.33 billion.

He said imports from China increased from $60.41 billion in 2014-15 to $65.21 billion in 2020-21, showing a growth of 7.94% in six years.

However, imports were stable between 2019-20 and 2020-21, she said.

“The government has made constant efforts to achieve a more balanced trade with China, including through bilateral partnership to remove non-tariff barriers on Indian exports to China,” Patel said.

The minister said schemes such as the Production Linked Incentive Scheme will help boost domestic manufacturing capacity and attract investments and reduce dependence on imports from China.

Major items imported from China include telecommunications equipment, computer hardware, fertilizers, electronic components, chemicals and pharmaceutical intermediates.
