Auguste-Tanoa-Coume is the World Bank’s country director for India, effective Monday. He will replace Junaid Kamal Ahmed who recently completed his five-year term.

Auguste, a citizen of Cte d’Ivoire, most recently served as the World Bank’s country director for Turkey, where he led the expansion of the bank’s country program and deepened his support for Ankara’s climate agenda.

Prior to this, he served as Director of the Department of Human Development and Economic Management in the Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) of the World Bank Group from January 2017 to April 2019.

He also held positions as Practice Manager at the World Bank’s Macroeconomics and Financial Management Practice, first in Latin America and the Caribbean, and then in the Middle East and North Africa regions.

He was a core team member of the World Bank’s 1998–99 World Development Report on Knowledge for Development. Before joining the World Bank as a young professional in 1996, he worked at the United Nations Development Program and taught Applied Economics in Cte d’Ivoire and France.
