India gives ₹4.09 crore to UN entity for women empowerment

India has made a generous contribution of $500,000 ( 4.09 crore) United Nations Organization for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, also known as UN Women. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ruchira Kamboj handed over the check towards the Indian government’s contribution to UN Women’s main voluntary budget. The donation was received by Sima Sami Bahous, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women.

“India is proud to be one of the founding members of the Executive Board of UN Women. India currently serves as a member of the Executive Board of UN Women. Women-led development is one of the priorities of India’s G20 chairmanship,” said an official press release.

In a tweet, Kamboj has said that India’s development model is one that is led by women and focuses on entrepreneurship and STEM education. Kamboj also reiterated the Government of India’s unwavering commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women, as highlighted in the mandate of UN Women.

Furthermore, Kamboj urged UN Women to increase the use of information and communication technology (ICT) and new technologies for the empowerment of women. The press release also stated that India continues to provide assistance to UN Women in fulfilling its mandate and activities.

India has been a founding member of the Executive Board of UN Women and is currently serving as a member. Additionally, women-led development is one of the priorities of India’s G20 presidency.

India’s contribution highlights the country’s commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women, as well as the government’s support for UN Women’s activities. Donations will be used towards UN Women’s efforts to promote gender equality and empower women globally.
