India needs to convert the country’s large fleet to zero-emissions vehicles

On the Transport Day at the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) Climate Summit, India today highlighted the need to zero in on the country’s large fleet of two-wheelers and three-wheelers, which together comprise more than 80% of the automobiles in the country. -emission vehicle, according to an official release.

India has participated in the 4th Ministerial Dialogue of the Zero-Emissions Vehicle Transition Council (ZEVTC), a global forum on enhancing political cooperation on the transition to zero-emissions vehicles.

The notification said that the ZEVTC brings together ministers and representatives from some of the world’s largest automobile markets to collectively address the critical challenges in the transition to zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs), so as to enable electric vehicles for all. The release also said that India has already made considerable progress in formulating policies towards rapid adoption of electric mobility.

The COP, or Conference of the Parties, began in the Scottish city of Glasgow on 31 October and will run until 12 November.

On November 10, the Center has also launched the e-Amrit portal on EVs, which is a one-stop destination for all information related to electric vehicles, the statement said.

NITI Aayog, on behalf of the government, also extended its support to the non-binding and COP26 declaration, which focuses on the transition to zero-emissions vehicles globally.

Several stakeholders (automotive manufacturers, governments, businesses, fleet owners, etc.) announced to work actively towards the spread and adoption of ZEV.

The signatories of the pledge called on all developed countries to strengthen international cooperation and support, so as to realize a global, just and just transition, the release said.
