Swiggy. But with almost 5 million orders, samosas become the most loved snack of the year
According to Swiggy’s annual statistics report released on Tuesday, India ordered 115 biryanis per minute, samosas equal to New Zealand’s population and enough tomatoes to play the Spanish Tomatina festival for eleven years, in 2021.
In 2020, 90 biryanis were ordered per minute and in 2021 it increased to 115 minutes per minute. Chicken biryani was the queen of biryani with 4.3 times more orders than its vegetarian counterpart. Around 4.25 lakh customers have made their debut on Swiggy by ordering Chicken Biryani.
The samosa became the most loved snack of the year with almost 5 million orders on Swiggy. According to Statistics, the desi snack was ordered six times more than chicken wings, while pav bhaji was the second favorite snack in the country with 2.1 million orders.
According to the study, the gulab flavored sweet topped the list with a total of 2.1 million orders, while Gulab Jamun and Rasmalai became the most ordered and second ordered sweets respectively in 2021 on Swiggy.
Bangalore most health conscious city
According to the Swiggy study, Chicken Biryani topped the charts in Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow and Hyderabad, while Mumbai ordered twice as many Dal Khichdi orders as Chicken Biryani.
Bengaluru has emerged as the most health conscious city, followed by Hyderabad and Mumbai. According to the study, with the majority of people ordering health food on Monday and Thursday, keto orders increased by 23% and vegetarian and plant-based food orders increased by almost 83%.
Swiggy delivered about 1.4 million packets of instant noodles, 3.1 million packets of chocolates, 2.3 million tubs of ice cream and 6.1 million packets of chips in 2021. In fact, chips were the top item ordered after 10 pm, the study found.
