India records 2,380 new COVID-19 cases, 56 Covid deaths in 24 hours: Center

The cumulative COVID vaccine dose administered in the country so far is more than 187.07 crores.

With 2,380 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, the total number of COVID-19 cases in India rose to 4,30,49,974, while active cases rose to 13,433, according to the data updated today by the Union Health Ministry.

The death toll rose to 5,22,062 with 56 fresh deaths, data updated at 8 am.

The ministry said active cases comprise 0.03 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 98.76 per cent. The active COVID-19 caseload has registered an increase of 1,093 cases in a 24-hour period.

According to the ministry, the daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.53 percent and the weekly positivity rate was 0.43 percent.

The number of people recovering from the disease increased to 4,25,14,479, while the death rate stood at 1.21 percent.

The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign have exceeded 187.07 crores.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed 20 lakh on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It had crossed 60 lakh on 28 September, 70 lakh on 11 October. 80 lakh on 29 October, 90 lakh on 20 November and crossed the one crore mark on 19 December.

The country crossed the grim milestone of 20 million on May 4 and 30 million on June 23 last year. The 56 new people include 53 from Kerala and one each from Delhi, Mizoram and Odisha.

A total of 5,22,062 deaths have been reported in the country so far, including 1,47,830 from Maharashtra, 68,702 from Kerala, 40,057 from Karnataka, 38,025 from Tamil Nadu, 26,161 from Delhi, 23,502 from Uttar Pradesh and 21,200 from West Bengal.

The ministry insisted that over 70 per cent of the deaths were due to co-morbidities.

“Our data is being collated with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website. The state wise distribution of data is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
