Union Home Minister Amit Shah to attend ‘No Money for Terror’ conference organized by Ministry of Home Affairs
The Ministry of Home Affairs will organize the third Ministerial ‘No Money for Terror’ conference next week, in which participants from around 75 countries are expected to participate.
The conference which was first held in Paris in 2018, followed by Melbourne in 2019 will be held in Delhi on November 18-19 after a gap of two years due to travel restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A statement from the MHA said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will participate in the conference and convey India’s determination in its fight against terrorism as well as the support system to achieve success against it.
It said the conference aims to take forward the discussions on combating terrorist financing held by the international community in the previous two conferences in Paris and Melbourne. “It intends to include discussion on technical, legal, regulatory and cooperation aspects of all aspects of terrorism financing. It also seeks to set the pace for other high-level official and political consultations focused on combating terrorist financing,” the ministry said.
It added that globally, countries have been affected by terrorism and extremism for many years and the pattern of violence in most theaters varies, but largely consists of prolonged armed sectarian conflicts as well as a turbulent geopolitical arises from the environment.
“Such conflicts often lead to poor governance, political instability, economic deprivation and large uncontrolled spaces. The involvement of a compliant state often exacerbates terrorism, especially its financing,” the MHA said.
The ministry said that India has faced terrorism and its financing in many forms for more than three decades, so it equally understands the pain and trauma of affected countries. “To demonstrate solidarity with peace-loving nations and help build a bridge for continued cooperation to combat terrorist financing, India was hosting two global events in October – the Interpol Annual General Assembly in Delhi and a special session united nations counterterrorism committee in Mumbai and Delhi. The upcoming NMFT conference will further the efforts to build understanding and cooperation among the nations,” it said.
Discussion at the NMFT conference will focus on global trends in terrorism and terrorist financing, use of formal and informal channels of funding for terrorism, emerging technologies and international cooperation needed to address terrorist financing and related challenges.
