India vs England 2022: Rohit Sharma disagrees with Kapil Dev’s comments on Virat Kohli’s place in the team Cricket News – Times of India

Nottingham: After the continuation of Virat KohliDisappointing performance in the last T20I against EnglandIndia captain Rohit Sharma disagree with the former captain Kapil DevCommenting on the star batsman’s place in the team, he said that he is watching the game from outside and does not know what is happening inside.
Virat Kohli’s low-scoring run continued on Sunday as he was dismissed for 11 in the second T20I, thus scoring only 12 runs in his two innings.
“He (Kapil) is watching the game from outside and doesn’t know what is happening inside. We have our thought process. We make our team, and there is a lot of thinking behind it. We support the boys and give them opportunities. That’s why you don’t know these things from outside. So what is happening outside is not important, but what is happening inside is more important to us.’ ,

“Everyone goes through ups and downs when it comes to form. The quality of the player is not affected. So we should keep these things in mind.
“When a player is doing well for so many years, one or two bad series doesn’t make him a bad player. We should not ignore his past performance. We, who are in the team, know the importance of a player. They (former players) have every right to talk about it, but it doesn’t mean much to us.”
Kapil had said that if a bowler with the ability of spinner Ravichandran Ashwin can be dropped from the Test team, then Virat Kohli can be out of T20Is. Ashwin did not play a single match in the five-match Test series against England, four of which were played in 2021 before the rescheduled fifth Test earlier this month.

“If Ashwin, the world’s number two Test bowler, can be dropped from the Test team, your No. 1 batsman can also be dropped,” Kapil said.
“If he (Virat) is not performing, you can’t keep these boys (young guys like Deepak Hooda) out. I hope there will be a healthy fight for selection. The youngsters should outperform Kohli. But Kohli needs to think ‘Yes, once upon a time I was a big player, but I need to play like that No. 1 player again’.
India lost the crucial final T20I by 17 runs on Sunday despite Suryakumar Yadav’s explosive 117. However, based on winning the first two T20Is, the visitors won the series 2–1.

Rohit termed it as one of the best T20 innings ever.
“When you’re chasing a big total, come out and bat like he (Suriyakumar) did. (It) shows the quality of the batsman. We were down three and wanted this partnership to last as long as possible. . He did a lot. Well today. Disappointed he didn’t make it to the end, but it takes nothing away from his knock.
“You don’t get to see that very often. We will take it as a team with both hands. He has shots all over the field. It’s a very rare quality that a batsman can have. It’s a must-have for us. It’s a good sign. There is such a player in the team.”
