India vs England 5th Test 2021: 5th India vs England Test to be played in July 2022; ECB | Cricket News – Times of India

London: The fifth and final Test between India and England, which was suspended due to a COVID-19 Last month’s outbreak, Friday was rescheduled to July next year, a decision that pushed the start of the limited-overs series between the two sides by six days.
NS England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that the game has been moved from Manchester to Edgbaston and will be part of India’s white-ball tour. The game, which was canceled after the cases of Kovid-19 came to the fore in the Indian team, will start from July 1.
“India lead the series 2-1, the concluding fifth match will now take place at Edgbaston from July 1, 2022, following an agreement between the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI),” the ECB said in a statement.

Test slotting in the available window has ensured that the limited overs series will now start six days later than the original plan.
There is no increase in the number of white ball games and it remains the same as the original plan. If the suspended Test was ruled to be abandoned or forfeited by India, as was widely speculated, the series would have ended 2–2.
The three-match T20I series begins on July 7 at the Ageas Bowl with Edgbaston and Trent Bridge hosting the second and third games on July 9 and 10 respectively.
The ODI series will begin at The Oval on 12 July while Lord’s will host the second match on 14 July and will conclude the series. old Trafford on 17 July.
“Ticket holders need not take any action as all tickets will remain valid for the same rearranged match day at their host venue,” the ECB said.
“Host venues will inform ticket buyers of the details of the new fixture and the options available to them, including the deadline for requesting a refund if they are not included in the new match day,” it added.
Last month, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had clarified in an interview to PTI that the rescheduled matches would be an extension of the series and not a standalone game.
India were leading 2-1 when the match was called off after visiting players refused to step on the field following positive Covid-19 cases among their support staff, including head coach Ravi Shastri.
After chief physio, Nitin Patel tested positive during the third Test along with Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar and junior physio Yogesh Parmar also tested positive until the series finale in Manchester, making the Indian player . anxious to hit the ground
The ECB said pre-planned events in Manchester forced a change of venue for the fifth Test. Manchester will now host the second Test against South Africa on August 25 at Edgbaston.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah lauded the ECB’s approach in resolving the issue amicably.
“I am delighted that the England-India Test series will now come to a perfect conclusion. The four Test matches were interesting and we needed a fitting ending,” Shah said in a statement.
“BCCI recognizes and respects the traditional form of the game and is also aware of its role and obligations towards fellow board members.
“Over the past two months, both the BCCI and the ECB have been engaged in discussions and our efforts were aimed at finding a suitable window. I thank the ECB for their understanding and finding an amicable solution,” Shah said.
ECB CEO Tom Harrison said his board was pleased to close the issue.
“We would like to apologize again to the fans for the disruption and disappointment in September events. We know this was a day that was well planned.
“We believe that accommodating this extra match means a tougher schedule for the white-ball series,” he said.
“We will continue to manage the welfare and workloads of our players through next year, while we continue to seek the optimal schedule for fans, players and our partners throughout the game.”
