India vs New Zealand, 2nd T20I: Would love to pick Rahul Dravid’s brain, says Rachin Ravindra cricket news

Young New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra on Thursday said that he is not aware that his name has any connection with Rahul Dravid, but hopes to pick the mind of India’s head coach during the ongoing T20I series. Rachin, who celebrated his 22nd birthday on Thursday, was asked during a virtual media conference if his name had any connection with two of India’s greatest cricketers, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar.

He said, “To be honest, I’m not very sure. I’ve never asked mom and dad where the name came from… I guess you have to ask them.”

Rachin was born in Wellington to Indian parents Ravi Krishnamurthy and Deepa Krishnamurthy, both of whom moved from Bangalore in the 1990s.

Rachin made his New Zealand debut at the 2016 Under-19 World Cup as well as the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, and during that time he first caught Dravid, who coached India’s juniors.

“Yes, Dravid is a great player in the game and I played a little cricket against him when he was coaching India A and a few years back when he came to New Zealand.

“He was coaching those guys and the India U-19 team. So it’s great to interact a little bit with him. Obviously, I’d love to interact a little bit more during this series, but he’s an absolute legend in the game. So if I can pick their brains it will be amazing,” he said.

Rachin made his international debut against Bangladesh at the beginning of the year when they lost the five-match T20I series 2-3 in Bangladesh. He was also part of the New Zealand squad that faced India in the final of the World Test Championship, but did not make the playing XI in June.

In the first T20I at Jaipur, Mohammad Siraj bowled Rachin for seven.

Describing the opportunity to play against India in his own home, he said, “All types of nations have always wanted to get a chance to play in India and I think it has been a very surreal experience so far. T20 is very special.”

Left-arm spinner Rachin also spoke about the Indian spin legacy and said that off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is very special to him.

“They have been doing it for a really long time. They are world class spinners, especially Ashwin has an incredible record and he has been around for a long time and the variations are unbelievable. Personally, I haven’t kept in touch. and would like to choose their mind at any given time,” he concluded.
