India women’s cricket team is set to tour Sri Lanka in June for 3 ODIs and as many T20Is. This will be his first international assignment since the 50-over World Cup in New Zealand earlier this year.

A source with knowledge of the development told India Today that the Indian team will tour Sri Lanka from June 23 to July 7.

The BCCI’s senior selection committee for women will meet to decide on the squad for the upcoming tour. It is expected that the selection committee will decide the name of a new ODI captain.

Legendary Mithali Raj, who led India in the World Cup earlier this year, has not announced her retirement but the board is looking forward. Mithali and senior pacer Jhulan Goswami have both been left out of the squad for the upcoming Women’s T20 Challenge starting May 23 in Pune. Deepti Sharma has been made the captain of the Velocity team in place of Mithali.

As reported earlier, Ramesh Powar will retain his job as head coach and travel to Sri Lanka with the Indian team. Notably, Powar’s role was questioned when India, faced with an early World Cup exit, failed to make the semi-finals, painfully losing to South Africa in their final league game.

It remains to be seen whether Jemima Rodrigues and pacer Shikha Pandey make a comeback in the limited overs side. Shikha is not a part of any of the 3 teams for the Women’s T20 Challenge.
