An Indian-American man was racially abused by a compatriot in California who hurled racist slurs that he was a “dirty Hindu” and a “disgusting dog”, a few days later. Hate crimes were reported in Texas against four women from the community,

As reported by NBC News on August 31, Krishnan Jayaraman was verbally assaulted by Singh Tejinder, 37, at Taco Bell on Grimmer Boulevard in Fremont, California, on August 21.

The Fremont Police Department said Mr Tejinder of Union City was charged with civil rights violations, assault and breach of the peace on August 29.

The report said Mr Tejinder was listed as “Asian/Indian” in the charging documents.

Mr. Jayaraman recorded the attack on his phone, which lasted more than eight minutes, the moment Mr. Tejinder told him: “You are disgusting, dog. you look ugly Don’t come out in public like this again.” In an abusive speech, Mr. Tejinder called him a “dirty Hindu”, repeatedly used the n-word, indicating that Mr. Jayaraman does not eat meat and shouted “Beef!” in his face. He was seen spitting at Mr. Jayaraman twice in the video.

At one point Mr Tejinder was seen saying: “…this is not India! You…India up, and now you…America up,” the report said.

Mr. Jayaraman said he was horrified by the incident and was even more upset to learn later that the perpetrator was also an Indian.

“I was scared, to be honest with you. On one hand I was angry, but I was scared what if this guy got too belligerent and followed me?” He told NBC Bay Area.

Mr. Jayaraman said, “I am not here to fight with you.” “What do you want? He said you know Hindus are shameful, disgusting. Then he spat on me,” the KTLA.com website reported.

That’s when Mr. Jayaraman says he and a restaurant employee called the Fremont police. They say the man kept on screaming for more than eight minutes.

As abc7news.com reports, Jayaraman’s video ended with the arrival of Fremont police officers.

Later the police chief addressed the community on social media.

Police Chief Sean Washington wrote: “We take hate incidents and hate crimes seriously, and understand their significant impact on our community. These incidents are disgusting. We are here to protect all community members, regardless of their gender, race, nationality, religion, and other differences.” “We would like to urge the community to respect each other and report immediately any situation that, after investigation, may escalate to the level of crime. In the event of a hate crime, we are at all available Fremont is one of the most diverse communities in the country and we are grateful for the contributions of community members from diverse cultures and backgrounds, the statement said.

On August 26, four Indian-American women were racially abused and thrashed in Texas by a Mexican-American woman who hurled racist slurs at them that they were “ruining” America and called them “Must go back to India”.
