Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has heaped praise on India pacer T Natarajan after his exploits in the current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Shastri also said that the Indian team missed the services of the left-arm pacer during the T20 World Cup, terming him “a specialist death bowler”. Natarajan had missed the T20 World Cup last year after sustaining a knee and shoulder injury during India’s home series against England. However, it seems the pacer has regained full fitness, and has taken the field in the ongoing IPL 2022.

“Very happy for him. We missed him in the World Cup. He was sure he would have been fit. He got injured against England when we were playing the ODI series and we really missed him (in the World Cup) ” Shastri told ESPN Cricinfo.

Natarajan, who traveled as a net bowler with the Indian team during the Australia tour in 2021, was instrumental in India’s Test series win.

Shastri, who was then the head coach, recalled the same tour and called Natarajan a lucky charm for the Indian team during the historic tour.

He said, “Whatever match I have picked him, we have won. In his T20 debut, India won. In his Test debut, India won. From a net bowler, he played the other two formats. “
