Indian Railways: Center issues gazette notification to integrate 8 services

Railways has notified the Indian Railway Management System (IRMS) which will integrate the eight existing services of the national transporter.

The ministry had issued a gazette notification for this on February 9.

The proposed reforms during Piyush Goyal’s tenure as Railway Minister created much resentment among some sections of the officials. The Railways had clarified that the seniority of the officers would not be affected.

It said that 27 posts of GMs have been upgraded to the top grade. It will be ensured that the eligible officers of all erstwhile services get the top grade post of General Manager.

It has been mentioned in the approved cabinet note that only officers of IRMS will be eligible to become functional members and Chairman/CEO of Railway Board. Employees will have the option to opt out of IRMS.

“In pursuance of the Cabinet’s decision dated 24.12.2019, a new Group ‘A’ Central Service named Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) will be created,” the notification said.
