Indian Railways resumes historic Neral-Matheran toy train

The famous toy train between Neral and Matheran has resumed its services from last week with Vistadome coaches. This mini train is one of the major tourist attractions of Matheran, a small hill station 100 km from Mumbai.

The Indian Railways Ministry has posted a video on Twitter on Wednesday. Neral is a tourist destination in the Raigad area of ​​East Mumbai district, about 80 km from the primary location of Mumbai.

“A rejuvenating experience with the serenity of nature! Neral-Matheran toy train in Maharashtra has resumed its services in the section,” wrote Indian Railways while sharing the post.

The 23-second clip shows passengers traveling in the train. A picture of the beautiful train and a post with some additional details was also shared on Twitter by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaish on Wednesday.

Sharing the post, he wrote, ‘Heritage Neral – Matheran toy train whistle again. He also shared the information that now the trains will have a Vistadome coach, gabion protection and grouting of stone pitching under the track.

According to a release from IRCTC, That train is a treat for commuters, and the journey to the summer destination of Mumbai covers a distance of 21 kilometres, cutting a swath through the jungle from Neral to Matheran in the Western Ghats.

The narrow-gauge railway line stops at three stations between Jummapatti, Waterpipe and Aman Lodge before terminating at Matheran. All these stations currently have a solar power plant with a capacity of 500-1000 Wp and a windmill in Matheran with a capacity of 6.1 KWp, as well as energy-efficient LED lighting and fans.

The railroad route was designed in 1900, with construction beginning in 1904 and completed in 1907.
