India’s 14-year-old shooter Namya Kapoor won the gold medal in the women’s 25m pistol event of the ISSF Junior World Championships here on Monday, surpassing compatriot Manu Bhaker.
Kapoor collected 36 points in the final to claim the top prize ahead of France’s Camille Jedrzejewski (33) and 19-year-old Olympian Bhaker (31) who have won three golds in the tournament so far.
Bhaker had to be content with the bronze medal after the French shooter won in the shoot-off.
Another Indian shooter, Rhythm Sangwan finished fourth as the country dominated the final.
Kapoor was sixth in the qualification, with Bhaker (587) and Sangwan (586) taking the top two spots with a total of 580 points.
Kapoor from Delhi had achieved a second best score of 583 in qualifying to finish fifth in the National Shooting Selection Trial at Dr Karni Singh Range in August.
India is on top with a total of 16 medals with seven gold, six silver and three bronze.
It is the first multi-discipline shooting event since the Tokyo Olympics, with 32 countries and approximately 370 athletes participating in the championship. PTI ah
