India’s first indigenous hydrogen fuel cell bus unveiled in Pune – Times of India

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh Unveiled India’s first Swadeshi on Sunday hydrogen fuel cell bus in pune hydrogen fuel The SAIL Bus has been developed by CSIR – Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and KPIT Ltd.
Yesterday, the Union Minister shared a video on Twitter, giving a glimpse of hydrogen Fuel cell bus with caption, “Video: Inspired by PM Shri @narendramodi” National Green Hydrogen Missionunveiled India’s first indigenously developed Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus developed by KPIT-#CSIR in Pune, supported by the Union Ministry of Science and Technology.

Dr Jitendra Singh was quoted in the press release as saying that the fuel cell uses hydrogen and air to generate electricity and power the bus, hence making it an eco-friendly transport mode.
If compared to a diesel bus, it typically emits 100 tonnes of CO2 per year on long distance routes and there are lakhs of buses across the country, said the official release. Further, Dr Jitendra Singh said that the operating cost of hydrogen fuel cell trucks is comparatively less than diesel buses and it can bring a revolutionary change in the entire country.
“About 12-14 per cent of CO2 emissions come from diesel-powered heavy vehicles. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles provide an excellent means to eliminate on-road emissions in the region,” the Union Minister said.
