India’s rice exports more than doubled under Modi government: Piyush Goyal

Piyush Goyal tweeted: India’s rice exports grew 109% between 2013-14 to 2021-22

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted on Sunday, India’s rice exports grew by 109 percent between 2013-14 and 2021-22.

In a tweet, Mr Goyal said, “India’s rice exports have registered an astonishing 109 per cent growth.”

He said that the policies of the Narendra Modi government help farmers to access the global market and ensure food security.

He tweeted the rice export figures in a picture titled “India the Rice Basket of the World”.

The picture shows that excluding Basmati, rice exports stood at $2,925 million in the 2013-14 fiscal year, and have since grown by a cumulative 109 per cent to $6,115 million in the 2021-22 fiscal year.

Separately, a note from the agriculture ministry showed that rice exports grew by 9.24 per cent in the 2021-22 financial year, with rice exports accounting for 102 per cent of its total target for the year.
