India’s total coal production up 18 percent year-on-year till October

New Delhi [India]Nov 24 (ANI): India’s total coal production is slated to be 448 million tonnes by October 2022, an 18 per cent increase over production during the same period last year, the Coal Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

The growth of coal production from Coal India is also more than 17 per cent.

The ministry is planning to create a stock in domestic coal-based plants of 30 million tonnes by the end of November 2022, the statement said.

“It (the ministry) plans to continue building up the stock so that by the end of March 31, 2023, the thermal power plants (TPP) stock is increased to 45 million tonnes. There is a plan to further increase the coal stock at the pithead.

The increase in average rake per day availability is helping to transport more quantity of coal and build up stocks at power plants.

“The Ministry of Power is also increasing the transportation of coal through rail-cum-road mode. CIL has notified quota for rail-cum-road mode of lifting to all power generating companies for the next eight months. This will help power generating companies to plan transportation logistics in advance.

Also, the Ministries of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Ministries of Power, Railways and Coal are working together to promote transportation of coal through sea routes.

So far, transportation of coal by rail from MCL to Paradip and then to power plants on the east coast is being done through rail-sea-rail route. The government is promoting transportation of coal from coal mines in the eastern parts of the country to power plants located on the west coast or northern parts of the country.

Accordingly, the capacity to transport coal to Paradip is being augmented.

“Coal movement to west coast plants through rail-sea-rail is planned to start early next year. The government is planning to promote transportation of coal in all three possible ways. (ANI)
