IndiGo CEO Peter Albers said on March 20 that IndiGo is moving to the next level of growth and cost leadership is important for the airline.

Currently, IndiGo operates around 1,800 daily flights and has a fleet of over 300 aircraft.

“We are moving to the next level of development,” Mr Albers said at a session of the CAPA India Aviation Summit in the national capital.

He said the V-shaped recovery of the country’s aviation sector has been a learning curve.

After being hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, the aviation sector is on a strong recovery path and domestic air traffic has almost touched pre-pandemic levels.

Noting that affordable fares are important, Mr. Albers said that it is important to maintain cost leadership.

The low-cost carrier is the country’s largest airline with a market share of over 55%. Responding to a question, Mr. Albers said that Indian aviation will move towards more sustainable finance, adding that there is more stability in the market.

The airline is focusing on internationalization of operations. It plans to launch flights to Nairobi, Jakarta and some Central Asian destinations.
