‘Infosys at the fore in ESG rules, Axis Bank best in transparency in disclosures’

According to the ESGRisk.ai part of the Acute Group company, Infosys has best environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices, while Axis Bank has better transparency in disclosure and reporting standards among Indian companies. The ESG Rating Agency reviews the top 500 listed companies across 55 industries.

As per the review, Infosys Limited also stands in overall ESG leadership and leadership in equal opportunities due to its diversity and inclusion based on age, gender, race, sexual orientation, disability, qualification, nationality and ethnicity of the employees. Axis Bank scored highest on transparency in disclosure and reporting standards and social impact for its community services, product quality and security, employee development and data privacy.

Overall transparency is where performance can be ascertained through disclosure of physical indicators and is dependent on publicly available information. This not only gives the company an edge as compared to the industry peers but also as compared to other listed companies. The top listed companies have achieved an overall transparency of 60%, out of which the top 100 best performing companies have an average transparency of 66% and the remaining companies have an average transparency of 58.5% and there is room for improvement in comparison. Top 100 companies, a company statement said.

ESGRisk.ai honors companies that have achieved excellence in sustainability. The ESG winners presented in 21 categories were announced after research that included disclosure, stock exchange releases, annual reports, news and controversy gathering and analysis.

Hindustan Zinc Limited was declared an environmental leader for its initiatives to reduce carbon footprint, manage waste effectively, reduce air pollution and manage environmental impact. In GHG emission reduction too, Hindustan Zinc Limited was an absolute winner for its excellent practices in reducing carbon footprint.

Tata Consultancy Services Limited tops the score in Leadership in Employment Quality. The company stood for its initiatives to promote fair compensation, flexible work schedules and a positive work culture. Housing Development Finance Corporation Limited scored highest in Employee Development for providing training, reskilling and upskilling opportunities and performance appraisals.
