The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday said that cricket captain Rohit Sharma will not be able to play the second Test against Bangladesh due to injury. India’s cricket board said fast bowler Navdeep Saini has also been ruled out of the second Test against Bangladesh.

Rohit Sharma missed India’s 188-run win in the first Test against Bangladesh after injuring his thumb during the previous ODI series.

“The medical team is of the opinion that the injury needs some more time to heal completely before the Indian captain can resume batting and fielding at full intensity,” the BCCI said in a statement. He will continue his rehabilitation and will not be available for the second and final Test against Bangladesh.”

India’s cricket board said that Navdeep Saini has also been ruled out of the second Test as he is suffering from an abdominal muscle strain. “Navdeep Saini has been ruled out of the second Test as well due to an abdominal strain,” the BCCI said.

KL Rahul, who captained India in the first Test, will continue as the stand-in captain.

The second Test starts in Mirpur from Thursday.
