Innovative robotic surgery performed at Continental Hospitals

Continental Hospitals said on Friday that a 60-year-old patient underwent robotic thymectomy surgery.

According to the hospital, the patient was suffering from thymoma, an enlargement of the left thymus gland, which had caused acute muscle weakness.

The surgery, performed by Dr. Pradeep Rachakonda, was performed due to complications associated with the patient and his co-morbidities, which made an invasive procedure very risky.

According to the hospital, the robotic procedure offered several advantages over traditional surgery with minimal trauma and a faster recovery. “Traditional surgery requires breaking the sternum (breast-bone) to access the chest cavity. However, with the surgical robot, this was done by placing a minimally invasive port in the chest area,” the hospital said in a press release.
