Instagram tests ‘censored content for users under 16’: all the details

Meta-owned Instagram rolled out new security measures and parental features last year to provide you with more control over your feed and profile. In a recent development, the video and photo sharing platform is limiting sensitive content to new teen users by default on the app.

In a blog post on Thursday, Instagram has announced that it will be expanding its sensitive content default to younger users. There are only two options for teens – “Standard” and “Low”. social media platformInstagram users over the age of 16 will be defaulted to the “Low” status and for existing users Instagram will send a prompt encouraging them to choose the “Low” option.

In contrast, Instagram users over the age of 18 will have access to “Standard”, “Less” and “More” options, with the last option allowing them to view more sensitive content or accounts at default settings.

In addition, the video sharing app will also ask users under the age of 18 to review the settings to update the security and privacy settings on the app. This will allow teens to limit who can share their content, who can message and contact them, and what types of content their followers can see. Instagram asks teens to review how they can manage their time spent on the platform.

All these latest measures are being taken with the intention of creating a safe environment for the youth on social media platforms. Instagram also introduced a sensitivity filter last year, which allows users to set limits on how much potentially sensitive content they can see on their “to explore” Page.
