The Indian Coast Guard has inducted its C-436 interceptor boat at Karaikal port to speed up its operations in the vast coastline of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

The boat, of 27.63 meters in length, is fitted with state-of-the-art navigation and communication equipment. A press release said the sensors and machinery are capable of operating in tropical marine conditions.

The boat is designed to carry a high-speed inflatable boat for boarding operations, search and rescue, law enforcement and maritime patrol. It can attain a maximum speed of 45 knots and has an endurance of 500 knots at a speed of 20 knots. The nurturing and accessibility, along with the latest and modern equipment and systems, gives the vessel the ability to perform the role of ‘Eagle Eye’ on nefarious activities, the release said.

IGCS C-436, with a complement of one officer and 12 enlisted personnel, is commanded by Assistant Commandant Virendra Kumar Yadav.

At a reception organized by the Indian Coast Guard on the first entry of the interceptor boat into Karaikal port, Nagapattinam Collector A. Arun Thamburaj; Commanding Officer, ICGS Karaikal; Commanding Officers of Coast Guard Ships; and representatives of stakeholders of coastal security and marine pollution.
