Throughout history, women have played a major role in the progress of science, though not much has been highlighted in our patriarchal regimes. Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) have historically been male-dominated fields and even women who wanted to pursue it were often held back by society. However, despite job difficulties and societal pressure, there are many exceptional women who not only pursued science but also excelled in their fields.
