Invest in MP, anti-social elements are now scared of bulldozer action, you will not face any problem: Chouhan tells industry

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday invited the industry to invest in his state and said that he will not face any problem with anti-social elements as he is now scared of his government’s bulldozer action.

Speaking at a session on investment opportunities in Madhya Pradesh organized by the Government of Madhya Pradesh and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here, he also said that his state has the most favorable environment for businesses. “When I became CM (for the first time), dacoits used to live in Chambal and films were made on them in Mumbai. But I took away the jobs of Mumbaikars because either the dacoits were eliminated, surrendered or they are in jails.

“I had said there would be either dacoits or Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Madhya Pradesh. Both can’t live together…the issue has been resolved.” Chouhan said that Naxalism has also been eradicated from the state and the network of Islamic movement of students has also been dismantled. India (SIMI), a banned organization, was destroyed.

“There is no gundagardi (hooliganism) now. If someone commits hooliganism or dabangai (bullying) then Mama’s bulldozer runs straight. So there is no fear that someone will harass you (businesses),” he assured. Chauhan is affectionately called by his supporters as ‘Mama’.

The Chouhan-led government came under criticism over its bulldozer action against alleged rioters or anti-social elements, with opposition leaders questioning the chief minister over the move. In April this year, several properties of people accused of pelting stones at Ram Navami processions in Khargone and Sendhwa towns were demolished by the government following communal violence.

Opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi have targeted the Chouhan government over the bulldozer action. In a tweet, Shiv Sena’s Priyanka Chaturvedi had earlier said, “Using bulldozers instead of the process of judiciary to decide quantum of crime and punishment, is another example of a state intoxicated by power and arrogance, which is all democratic. And is driven by hatred, bypassing the constitutional. Criteria. Shameful example.” Speaking at the session, Chouhan further said that he has freed 21,000 acres of land from the clutches of ‘dabangs’ (anti-social elements), where houses are now being built for the poor.

Urging the industry to invest in the state, he said, “Madhya Pradesh has the most favorable environment for businesses.” “The state has enough affordable land for businesses, and also skilled manpower. It also provides cheap power to the industry,” he said. Chouhan said that the first thing his government did after becoming the CM for the fourth time (in March 2020) was bringing labor reforms.

“Our policies are investor friendly. I invite you to MP because I am there. Every Monday, I take out time to meet investors,” he said.
