iPhone 13 satellite feature to launch in some markets, go live in 2022: Report

The iPhone 13 series is likely to launch sometime this month and the latest from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman provides details on what the annual Apple Fall launch event might have to offer. The event is likely to bring the iPhone 13 range and the Apple Watch Series 7. With reports indicating a delay in production of the smartwatch, Gurman says the wearable will still be announced at the event. Availability is reported in limited quantities or to be delayed for some models. Gurman also says that the expected satellite feature of the iPhone 13 will be available only in select markets.

Gurman’s latest PowerOne newsletter hints at what’s new iphone 13 will reportedly get anticipated satellite facility. The report also suggests that the iPhone 13 may not get the feature immediately and the functionality is likely to go live next year. While hardware support will be embedded in the iPhone 13 range, the feature won’t be rolled out for a few months. Gurman clarified that the feature will not allow users to use the iPhone 13 as a satellite phone and have the ability to make calls anywhere in the world without cellular coverage.

He adds, “It’s not happening now, next year or anytime in the near future. Launching such a feature would require hardware that is not ready for prime time, would be costly and require a lot more than the phone carriers.” could lead to a rebellion that Apple depends on.” The new satellite feature will reportedly allow users to broadcast short emergency texts and send SOS distress signals for distress, such as plane crashes or sinking ships, in remote areas. The newsletter says the emergency feature will only work in areas with no cellular coverage and will only work in select markets.

The Apple Watch Series 7 is reported to be announced during the September event, ‘but will result in a mix of models shipping late or in smaller quantities due to production delays’.
